The starctl command

Starting Stargate using starctl

starctl v2.0

starctl v2.0

The starctl command controls and configures Stargate nodes. The command starts the coordinator service. The starctl command includes most of the options that pertained to the starctl command in Stargate v1.0, plus new options.

The command can be run:

starctl --cluster-name stargate \
  --cluster-seed 127.0.0.1 \
  --cluster-version 3.11 \
  --listen 127.0.0.2 \
  --simple-snitch

and the options are passed to the starctl command.

The following tables detail the options available for each service.

Set if the backend is DSE. Do not set this option if the backend is Cassandra.

export DSE=true

--cql-port port number

CQL_PORT

--cql-port 9043

--enable-auth

ENABLE_AUTH

unset, or false

Set to enable PasswordAuthenticator in the cluster.

export ENABLE_AUTH=true

--use-proxy-protocol

USE_PROXY_PROTOCOL

unset, or false

Use proxy protocol to determine the public address and port of CQL requests.

export USE_PROXY_PROTOCOL=true

--proxy-dns-name

PROXY_DNS_NAME

Use proxy DNS name to determine the public DNS name for CQL requests.

export PROXY_DNS_NAME=proxy

--proxy-port

PROXY_PORT

Use proxy port to determine the public port of CQL requests.

export PROXY_PORT=9000

--developer-mode

DEVELOPER_MODE

unset, or false

Enables developer mode, where the Stargate node behaves as a regular Cassandra node, joining the ring with tokens assigned in order to facilitate getting started quickly and not requiring additional nodes or an existing cluster.

export DEVELOPER_MODE=true

--emulate-dbaas-defaults

EMULATE_DBAAS_DEFAULTS

unset, or false

If set bind the web services to the listen address only.

export BIND_TO_LISTEN_ADDRESS=true

--bind-to-listen-address

BIND_TO_LISTEN_ADDRESS

unset, or false

If set bind the web services to the listen address only.

export BIND_TO_LISTEN_ADDRESS=true

--jmx-port

JMX_PORT

Port to which JMX is bound

--disable-mbean-registration

DISABLE_MBEAN_REGISTRATION

unset, or false

If set disable MBean registration

export DISABLE_MBEAN_REGISTRATION=true

--disable-bundles-watch

DISABLE_BUNDLES_WATCH

unset, or false

If set disable bundles watch

export DISABLE_BUNDLES_WATCH=true

--host-id

HOST_ID

Sets the Host ID

export BIND_TO_LISTEN_ADDRESS=true

starctl v1.0

starctl v1.0

The starctl command controls and configures Stargate nodes.

starctl --cluster-name stargate \
  --cluster-seed 127.0.0.1 \
  --cluster-version 3.11 \
  --listen 127.0.0.2 \
  --simple-snitch
When Stargate is launched on a host as shown above, it will connect only to Cassandra clusters accessible on the host’s network. To run Stargate in a containerized environment, see the Installing Stargate with an existing Cassandra cluster documentation.
